Thread Woven Buttons—Rachell Baker—Ages 12 and up
This is a hands on class in which students will learn two methods of making thread woven buttons.
Youth Armored Combat–Grand Kittens and Lava—Ages 6-17
In a typical Kittens and Lava scenario, youth combatants will cross a field of lava, rescuing as many kittens as possible, avoiding hazards and dragons. Points will be awarded for killing dragons, number of rescued kittens, and successful navigation of the field.
(For those of you who haven’t seen it, we mark a section of the list field as “lava”, and place “stones” – pieces of fabric in rough stone shapes, which are a variety of different sizes – at random places. Combatants will cross the field by leaping from stone to stone. Kittens will be plush toys, not live kittens. Dragons are combatants who can walk on lava, but who are usually restricted to a zone halfway across the field. Dragons are typically Level 3 fighters or heavy weapons fighters with Youth Sparring authorizations.)
Bara Tapes Part 2: Patterning a Garment Using Bara Tapes–Sibillia d’Orange–
Ages 14 and up—Fee:$1
We will be patterning a bodice from Alcega in this class. Please bring your own Height, Waist, and Chest tapes.
Advanced Drumming and Rhythm— Doumbek, Tar, and Riq–Beatriz de Burgos &
Lord Brian MagUidhir–Ages 10 & up
In this class we will present more advanced techniques and sounds, introduce and play rhythms with more complex meters. Techniques for frame drums including the tar and riq will be discussed and practiced along with doumbek. Bring your frame drum if you have them for this advanced class.
Bread and Baking Over the Fire—THL Constanza di Sevilla—
Children should have an adult present
Come and try different breads and baking them over the fire. I will be using an antique waffle iron similar to Renaissance waffle irons also.
Getting to Know an Oseberg Loom– M.Thora Sigurdsdottir–Ages 14 and up
Come get to know how an Oseberg Loom works and then maybe build your own.
Youth Animal Hunt–Archery
Time for the Youth of Northshield to bring home game in the form of a new friend – when you shoot a stuffy, you get to take it home with you. There will likely be an opportunity for chronological adults to shoot, as well. Animal surgery supplies will be provided in case of catastrophic injuries (to the stuffies only, please!).
You Don’t Have To Be A Body Builder To Throw Axe And Spear–
Trystan der Facheltraeger–Ages 10 & up with parental permission
9-time winner of the Pennsic inter-kingdom tomahawk division teaches how to throw safely and without injuring yourself. Works for non-athletes.
Drumming Practice/Jam Session — Beatriz de Burgos and Lord Brian MagUidhir–
Ages 10 and up
This is an open drum practice / jam session. We will be practicing the rhythms and techniques taught in the introductory, intermediate, and advanced drumming classes. Dancers welcome!
Fiber Fun for Everyone!—Eithni—Ages 4-99—Fee $0-$5 depending on materials
Beginners’ fiber projects will be available to stop by and try out. Whipcording, weaving, sewing, and more! Kits will be available to take home for free or a nominal fee. Adults and children (with supervision) welcome.
Children’s & Youth’s Garb & Armor Exchange at the Equestrian List, Sat., 1-3pm
Hey Northshield! Are you an adult responsible for children? Do they need garb? Armor? Have the children in your life grown out of their garb or armor? If you are going to WW, take a look at your garb closet and pack up what no longer fits you or your kids to bring to the Family Faire.
One part of the Family Faire is the Children’s and Youth’s Garb and Armor Exchange. And, you may not have known that we have a table at the Exchange dedicated to larger, teen-sized kids as well as tables for kids of all other shapes and sizes. This has often been a great way for that friend of a teen who came along to the event with an SCA family at the last minute to find a great outfit to wear to Court on Saturday. Looking the part helps everyone feel like they fit in and belong.
Donations can be dropped off at the Tea Tent, Info Point or Strawboss, preferably before Noon on Friday.
● Please bring the garb you’re willing to share.
● The hope is for the children and their adults at the event to “shop” for garb and then for adults to “shop” for a child not present.
● If you bring clothing to share, you may take it with you or donate the garb to be shared at another event.

Expand your beverage horizons! Are you tired of drinking Gatorade at events? Not a fan of things made with vinegar? Explore other flavors from the far and near East to delight the taste buds and keep you hydrated!
Youth Page Tournament–Equestrian
A youth-focused equestrian activity. Come practice “mounted” weapons handling in a head-to-head race. Fun for all ages! No authorizations required.
Thrown Weapons Snack Time: Eat What You Stick!
Kids and their parents are invited to the Thrown Weapons range Saturday afternoon for a snack! Targets will be (pictures!) of treat items (some sugary, some savory, some fruity). Participants will be able to choose a snack from among the targets they hit. (Snacks will be whole fruit or pre-packaged and with labeling for allergens. Substitutions will be allowed if a participant sticks a snack they cannot eat!) Standard knife, axe, spear, and sling targets will be available as well as targets set at ranges for younger/smaller participants.

While we would love to feed everyone, we are planning 100 servings. First come, first served until we run out.

Concordance of Games
Come one, come all to the Concordance of Games, beginning one hour after Saturday court. This is a family friendly activity, including period games, complex board games, and a sponsored (very easy to learn) dice game. Bring your gaming tokens / treasures to add to the fun. BYOB.
