Letter from our Seneschal—7-20-2024

11 May
Hiya Nordskogen!

Something we covered at the recent meeting was a prospective demo for a group of Ramsey County Employees. It would be a closed event organizing a series of social events for all their staff, the Spirit of Service, scheduled for September 23 to September 27.
We spoke about this at the meeting along with our concerns. I responded to Franciso with those concerns (no safe space for archery, no combat for non-auth, etc), and I also offered A&S displays. After I responded, I received the following back. We would be a go for a demo at this point and within society safety parameters – so I am looking for volunteers! It is on a Wednesday, so I do understand work schedules may prevent many from participating, but its a ways out to plan as well.
I will get a barony event put up on FB once I have times. For now its scheduled for Wednesday, September 25th at Long Lake Park in New Brighton. Late September should allow for some decent weather too!
Here is the latest response:
“I love the idea of the Thrown Weapons demonstration and open to attendees. This is certainly what we were looking for!

Regarding archery, I had already spoken with park staff, and they approved the idea but (as you observed) there are trying to figure out the right spot. Once I get their input, we can discuss whether your Archery Captain thinks this will work. I will also confirm availability of archery loaner gear from the park for attendees.

We would still like to have the Armored Combat demonstration without attendee participation. I also appreciate the suggestion of Arts & Science displays. Let’s include this as part of the activities of the day.

We will reach out with more information about exact times and to discuss a tentative schedule during the day of the event.
Thank you so much for your interest and for sharing your passion about reenactment with us!
Francisco”
They have mentioned payment for our participation, however, I will suggest they make a donation since we are non-profit.
I love to hear everyone’s feedback, if you would like to help, or if you have any concerns!!
Thanks, Judith
