Reinheitsgebot Competition Description:

In 1516, the German state Bavaria implemented the Reinheitsgebot, or Beer Purity Law, stipulating that beer could be made from just three ingredients: water, barley, and hops (yeast’s role in fermentation had not yet been discovered). In part, the Reinheitsgebot was intended to restrict the use of wheat and rye in order to regulate prices for those grains to keep bread affordable. The Law also had the effect of suppressing the use of various plants commonly used in pagan rituals, such as gruit (a mixture of herbs used to bitter beer) and belladonna, and of problematic ingredients meant to preserve beer, such as stinging nettle and henbane.
In this competition, you are a brewer’s apprentice in Bavaria sent to collect ingredients to brew beer. You are to collect as much water, barley, and wild hops as possible without contaminating the ingredients with restricted items. Will you make the most uncontaminated beer and claim your very own (2 liter; empty) keg?

Adults and children (with permission of a legal guardian) may participate. No experience is necessary. Final rules will be posted and read at the time of the tourney. As always, loaner gear is available and targets will be provided on site.

Shot in the Dark Throw Description:

Throw axes and knives (sorry, no spears, slings or plumbata for this one!) at glow in the dark targets! This is just for fun, there is no formal competition, though participants are encouraged to see how big of a splat they can make on the targets!

  • Closed-toe shoes required.
  • Headlamps and flashlights are encouraged for weapon retrieval but must remain off during active throwing on the line.
  • No loaner gear – throw at your own risk!
  • No alcohol allowed. Marshals will remove participants they feel are unable or unwilling to be safe.

Sunday

  • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Society Royal Rounds & Thrown Weapons Interkingdom Competition rounds
  • 11 a.m. – 12 noon: Range tear-down: All are welcome to assist; many hands make light work!
